IIT-JEE

IIT-JEE (Indian Institute of Engineering Joint Entrance Exam) is conducted by National Testing Agency (NTA), this exam is Divided in two parts; Paper 1 and Paper 2. On the basis of our performance in Paper 1, we can get admission in B.E./B.Tech. programs at NITs, IIITs, CFTIs and other Institutions recognized by State Government and it is also an eligibility test for Paper 2. On the basis of our Paper 2 score, we can get admitted into IITs.

There have been many changes in IIT-JEE since past years. Paper 1 (JEE Mains) is conducted 4 times a year, in the months of February, March, April and May (April and May exams have been postponed due to pandemic) while Paper 2A (B.Arch) and Paper 2B (B.Planning) will be held only twice a year, February and May. The result of JEE Main is determined using the process of normalization and ranks are obtained on the basis of percentile score obtained in the exam.

Pattern and Marking Scheme:

Paper 1 (JEE Mains):

Paper 1 consists of 90 questions, 30 questions each subject (20 questions for Section-A and 10 questions in Section-B). A student can answer 75 questions, 25 each subject (20 questions from Section-A and 5 questions from Section-B). The exam is 3 hours online examination conducted in English, Hindi, Assamese, Gujrati, Bengali, Kannada, Malayalam, Marathi, Tamil, Urdu, Punjabi, Telugu and Odia.  

In Section-A, MCQ (Multiple Choice Questions)

  • 4 marks are awarded for every correct answer.
  • 1 mark is deducted for every incorrect answer.
  • 0 marks for not attempted questions. 

In Section-B, Numerical Type questions

  • 4 marks are awarded for every correct answer.
  • 0 marks for every incorrect answer or not attempted question.

Paper 2A (B.Arch):

It Consists of 72 MCQ Type questions in Section-A where, 50 questions for Aptitude (out of which only 20 questions are to be attempted), 20 questions for mathematics and 2 questions for Drawing. Section-B consists of 10 Numerical Value questions (out of which only 5 are to be attempted). The exam is 3-hours long conducted in both online and offline mode.

In Section-A (MCQ Type questions)

  • 4 marks are awarded for each correct answer.
  • 1 mark is deducted for each incorrect answer.
  • 0 marks for not attempted questions.
  • For Drawing, each question carries 50 marks with no negative marking.

In Section-B (Numerical Type questions)

  • 4 marks are awarded for every correct answer.
  • 0 marks for every incorrect answer or not attempted question.

Paper 2B (B,Planning):

It Consists of 95 MCQ Type questions in Section-A where, 50 questions for Aptitude (out of which only 20 questions are to be attempted), 20 questions for mathematics and 25 questions are planning based. Section-B consists of 10 Numerical Value questions (out of which only 5 are to be attempted). The exam is a 3-hour online exam.

  • 4 marks are awarded for each correct answer.
  • 1 mark is deducted for each incorrect answer.
  • 0 marks for not attempted questions.

In Section-B (Numerical Type questions)

  • 4 marks are awarded for every correct answer.
  • 0 marks for every incorrect answer or not attempted question.

Paper 2 (JEE Advanced):

JEE Advanced is divided in two different exams of 3 hours each (9:00-12:00 and 14:30-17:30).

First exam is divided in three sections:

  • Section-1 contains 6 MCQ Questions (with more than one correct answer).
  • Section-2 contains 8 Numerical Value Answer Type Questions.
  • Section-3 contains 4 Paragraph Based Questions (2 Paragraphs and 2 MCQ for each).

Second exam is divided in three sections:

  • Section-1 contains 6 MCQ Questions (with more than one correct answer).
  • Section-2 contains 8 Numerical Value Answer Type Questions.
  • Section-3 contains Matching type question with 4 options.

In Section-1 (MCQ Questions with more than one correct answer)

  • 4 marks are awarded if all the correct options are chosen.
  • 3 marks are awarded if all options are correct and three correct options are chosen.
  • 2 marks are awarded if three or more options are correct and only two correct options are chosen.
  • 1 mark will be awarded if two or more options are correct and only one correct option is chosen.
  • 0 marks the question is not attempted.
  • 2 marks will be deducted in all other cases.

In Section-2 (Numerical Value Answer Type Questions)

  • 3 marks are awarded if the correct numerical value is written.
  • 0 marks for wrong answer and not attempted question.

In Section-3 (Paragraph Type pr Matching Type Question)

  • 3 marks are awarded only if the correct option is chosen.
  • 0 mark are awarded for not attempted questions.
  • 1 mark will be deducted in all other cases.

Eligibility:

For Paper 1, the candidate must have passed and secured minimum qualifying marks. The candidate should have had at least five subjects in Class XII (Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics compulsory).

For Paper 2, 

For JEE Mains 3 attempts are allowed, that are the year of passing Class XII and two immediately following years. For JEE Advanced only 2 attempts are allowed, that are the year of passing Class XII and the immediately following year.
